Ask for the newspaper. This morning’s front page headline « Newsies set the stage alight ».
It was with some impatience that we awaited the arrival of Newsies The Musical in London. And finally, the newsies are taking to the streets of the British capital, with some extensions already official…
The first thing we can say is that the wait has paid off. What a breathtaking and unusual show!
As soon as the first track Santa Fe is played, we are under the spell. We will be even more so at the end of the first act in a cover of the same song to give us chills. Seize the date knocked us out with their incredible performance. A performance that lives up to the reputation of the iconic song. Seize the date goes to a crescendo both vocally and physically. It’s amazingly precise. Like the rest of the show. Twice, the audience will give a deserved standing ovation DURING the show. Never before seen! Kings of New York is another of the many great moments of this show.
We have a Jack who has a magnificent presence, an endearing Crutchie and a Les who leaves us speechless. How is it possible to have such enormous talent at this age?
In Newsies, the melodies are sometimes wonderfully heartbreaking, sometimes uplifting. The transitions between scenes are incredible.
The setting of a New York that we’ll call « Old Town » is indescribable. It works so well that we are totally immersed in a New York of another century thanks to a grandiose and unprecedented staging where the space is occupied to an unimaginable extent. The stage is underlined by a diffuse light, often sepia, which gives an appearance of old newsprint. At other times, it frames the performers like a photo insert…
The pace of the show is divinely infernal and noticeable! The cast pushes us around with their unparalleled talent. During the tap dance performances, you could see guys who have stars under their feet. They bring the house down and outdo everything.
More than you can handle emotionally.
Newsies is certainly the event of the London season. You’re bound to get hooked on this epic, mind-blowing show.
Synospis
Produced by Runaway Entertainment, and based on a true story, Disney’s NEWSIES is set in New York City at the turn of the 20th century. It’s the rousing tale of a ragged band of teenage newspaper sellers, who dream of a better life far from the hardship of the streets. After newspaper magnate Joseph Pulitzer hikes up the prices for his papers charged to the newsies, Jack Kelly rallies his fellow newsboys in an attempt to protest the change, falling in love with young reporter Katherine along the way. These young newsies from across the city come together and rise up against the exploitation of wealthy publishing tycoons and fight for justice using the only power they have – solidarity.
